Three years ago, I was heartbroken when my sweet little King Charles Spaniel, Molly, passed on. Molly came into my life when I was living alone in the rural hills of central Massachusetts. It was just the two of us, getting along in the middle of nowhere. The day I brought her home, I visited the breeder and sat on the floor in her kitchen with several puppies in the litter. A few came and paid me some attention, but Molly never left by my side. It seemed clear that she was the one. One might say that she rescued me from my loneliness. A few months later, I found another perfect puppy. Riley is a King Charles Spaniel, and like Molly, he never leaves my side. I like to feel that Molly facilitated this new friendship and that she knew we needed each other.
Our pets are such a cherished part of our family, leaving a lasting impact on our lives. Their unconditional love and loyalty offer us unique happiness and fulfillment. But when they pass away, the question arises – do pets go to heaven?
Many people believe they have communicated with their pets in the afterlife. In fact, some owners have claimed to have seen or felt their pets’ presence after they passed away. Others have reported vivid dreams or visitations from their pets. These experiences have led many to believe that their pets have moved to a spiritual realm beyond our physical world.
For most of us, the belief that our pets go to heaven is deeply rooted in one’s own spiritual or religious beliefs. Some religious leaders believe that animals have souls just like humans, while others suggest that animals may not have the same type of soul as humans but may still have a spiritual existence. In some cultures, pets are believed to be reincarnated after death.
Years ago, a Catholic priest told me, “Since pets do not have souls, they cannot go to heaven.” This devastated me since I had lost many fur babies through the years. An eternal life without my beloved pets did not seem like the happy, perfect nirvana I have come to expect.
Happily, in my work as a medium, beloved pets often come through to let their owners know they are still with them! Sometimes they return with their owners, who have been reunited with them on the other side. What a joyful reunion that must be!
People often ask me during readings if their spouse on the other side is jealous of their new relationship. They’re always relieved when they hear my answer. I’ve relayed countless messages across the veil from souls who have made a relationship happen for the person they left behind. There’s no jealousy or resentment in Heaven. Spirits want the people they left behind to be happy and often work behind the scenes to ensure their loved one has what they need to live their best life. This is also true for our pets.
I’m confident that Molly will always watch over Riley and me. I love her just as much as I ever did, and having Riley in my life in no way diminishes our connection. She will always be a very special part of my world.
