I’ve been going, I was originally in India for a month in 1986 and since 99 I have been going, I’ve been there every winter except COVID, one plus three for COVID.

Well, I’ve been all over India, I’ve been staying lately. I’ve been staying not lately, but I’ve always gone to Rishikesh. That’s my home base. Rishikesh is where the Beatles went. And it’s the thing. One of the things that makes it well, what makes it unusual is that it’s it’s in the foothills. And so it’s where the the Ganga comes out of the mountains and starts the.

going through 1,500 miles, 2,500 kilometers through the plains of India, that it is the mother river for all of India, the spine of India. And so this is where it comes out of the mountains and starts to be more of the level part and where everybody interacts with it more.

Oh, nice. You know, I’ve been, I’ve been to India. I went, you know, it’s been a few years now. I have a son who’s 12. It was before he was born. So not long before, but I went and it was Southern, you know, it was the South part of India, Bangalore, you know, Mysore in that area. And I, I just did that. I went from temple to temple and really, um, you have to sort of be there to appreciate it. think it was one.

It’s funny because people will ask me why I went to India and I’ll usually tell them it’s because that’s where I went to driver’s ed. You’re lucky you’re not going to be killed, know, the way that, but they have it down. It’s amazing. There are more accidents. It’s incredible. What can you tell us? What first drew you to the spirituality and, and Vedic astrology over 50 years ago?

And it could have been that I had what we call some scars that I had the past experiences with it, but it just seemed like something that I wanted to become involved with. And then Vedic became popular later. And I started with it later. I think the beginning, the beginning,

And there’s an energy that is beyond the physical plane, that there’s a, what do call it, an excitement in the air or an anticipation before they come or, it’s not around parties, but it’s just an example of where there’s a lot of energy, you know? And so any event that, you you stand in front of Yosemite or your waterfalls or you’re standing there at the

This is your psychic, know, that you fit well, the spheres beyond the physical plane, I could feel something more. And the idea was, is that as soon as you feel that there’s more, then the Pandora’s box in my mind was open and it could be anything.

all realities around the table at that point. And so then I think then it became following the spiritual life and it may not have been a particular path at the time. Maybe it was understanding, but I think at the beginning it had concentration and meditation. had a focus. had a sense of…

enlightenment, which I wouldn’t, it’s not a word I use very often, but I mean a goal towards awakening or some get somewhere because I think it was, you know, at the time this was 1970, there was definitely a feeling of wanting to get out of where you were, you know, and I call that and I don’t know what the word, I forget what the words I used back then, but whether you want to call it a getting happy or

or reducing, letting go of suffering or finding out what this life is about or why am I here? Any of those things, it doesn’t matter. They’re basically all the same, even though they have a little bit of a difference. So I think it was sort of these kind of questions and then it was sort of open-ended and then it became seeking in the spiritual.

spirituality, you know, following having a master and a guru and following that particular path. Using that as a as a springboard for for more and more searching deeper and deeper. It just keeps it’s like it just keeps echoing further, you know, gets bigger and bigger. There’s no limit to it.

Right. Can you talk a little bit about Vedic astrology? How is that different from what we might think about when we think about astrology?

Indra (08:45.512)
The Vedic astrology is a term that’s been coined to use Indian astrology, the astrology of the country of India. is the main differences is that it’s based on sidereal time, which is start time. And Western astrology is based on tropical time, which is the seasons. And so the charts are cast slightly differently. They’re 24 degrees different. In 400 AD, the two systems were the same. And so by then they thought, it doesn’t matter.

But the fact was that as the hundreds of years passed and it mattered more and more, we’re at 72 years a degree. It’s the Western, this is probably more than you wanna know, but the Western is the seasons. The relationship is based on Aries one is March 21st, spring. It’s the seasons, the relationship with the earth and the sun.

Vedic takes into account the sky behind the sun, and the sky behind the sun isn’t the same every year. It’s on a 26,000 year cycle called the procession of the equinox. And so it comes around. So 360 degrees, 26,000 years, 72 years, one degree, from 400 AD to now 24 degrees difference. So the chart is cast slightly differently.

The astrology itself isn’t particularly different. We don’t use outer planets. We don’t use asteroids. Some people do, but I don’t particularly. I’m very just interested in the inner planets and I find it to be enough. And it’s an astrology. What I do is an astrology using the sidereal chart or the Vedic chart and some of the laws of Vedic astrology and some of them from Western astrology, which I guess I’ve studied.

is to get a core strength and weakness of your chart in order for you to have it become an X-ray of the strengths and weaknesses of where you have abilities and skills and where you have deficiencies that become our obsessions and compulsions. There’s where we hold on. The planets don’t care, but the planets were weak. What’s a weak planet? Try getting a sun taint in November.

Okay, so there you go. So that’s a weak planet. I mean, it’s not that the planet is weak, but the energy of it doesn’t feel strong and acceptable and strengthening. And so the human personality, for whatever reason, compensates in our behavior based on the weakness of the sun.

the weaknesses and strengths of any of the planets. And so what is a weak sun in astrology? Well, you can’t get a suntan, but the idea of it is that you have low self-esteem, that you diminish yourself, that you accommodate other people, you give up of your needs and you don’t think of your own needs. This is how a weak sun is translated into astrology. And I’ll grant you.

that it makes absolutely no sense except that somehow somebody figured this stuff out and it works. know, 1,500 clients in, you know, there’s very few people that say, no, that’s not me. You know, even if I have the wrong chart, they’ll say it’s them. So I find that, I find it to be very powerful. I mean, why were, why were people, people were killed?

for astrology, for saying for a thousand years people would be killed for saying that the sun orbits the earth or orbits the sun. That was a punishable offense of death for a thousand years. That’s how powerful astrology is.

Yeah, yeah, you’ve you’ve got a lot of experience with this I mean you’ve traveled You know offering sessions and classes Is there anything from your journeys that that really has profoundly changed how you see yourself or even humanity for that matter?

Well, is there anything that hasn’t, you know, is really the better answer.

You know, have, sure, I have had many, many moments, you know, many moments among many days of just aha moments of just deep insight and just uncovering, you know, a little bit more gets uncovered. There’s just a little bit more, you know, less clouds and a little bit more clarity and just aha moments. I don’t have that.

I was corporate and then my life changed. I don’t really have that because I got into it so long ago. I think that was my moment. My moment was, is that when I realized that there was more levels to explore in my own way, that there was more levels to explore, then it opened the whole gamut to anything. so since then, it’s just been…

You know, was in Bodegaya, where I’m going to go back to Bodegaya, where Buddha found enlightenment with the Bodhi tree. I was there for the millennium. that was with me for, I mean, it’s still with me, but I mean, that was with me for years. The quiet and the outer spaceness of that particular night.

Yeah. You know, for people who might be new to this, and I know there are because even I don’t truly understand astrology, you know, how would you describe its value, let’s say for self awareness or maybe, know, personal growth.

Indra (14:58.792)
Well, the thing is that because it’s so powerful, it can be used in a lot of different ways. And I think that the way that that isn’t used for personal growth astrology is when and as well, and it’s a dispowering and the way that it’s dispowering is by telling people that they’re stuck, that it can’t change, that this is the way things are and that it’s rigid and sorry, you know, better try next life. That is not

the way it works. The way it works is by understanding like, like if you’re trying to get from is it I think Boston if you’re trying to get from Boston to to Missoula Montana and you don’t have any maps or your phone.

you know, gonna be a rocky path, gonna be some wrong turns. So astrology kind of lights the way, it kind of gives you the path, it tells you where you have strengths and weaknesses, it tells you what your, I had this client the other day who’s in the middle of her Venus period, and we don’t have to go too far into that, but truth and integrity is the issue. And it was so strong.

that it was hard for her to see it because it’s kind of an issue for her anyways. And this is the culmination of the issue that you’re working on it. She was almost 50, so you know, been through a lot. this is the moment of coming to the truth of letting go of her own personal truth, weaponized.

through a sense of right that is totally made up. As validity, but in reality is kind of weaponized and totally made up, which we all do.

So that’s what the way that I use astrology, that’s what it can do is to get really clear on where the work needs to be and where the strengths are and what you’re, and it makes sense. I love the people who are in total chaos because it’s easy relatively. Yeah, the roadmaps, it’s really clear. Here’s how you get to Missoula, very clear.

Can you talk about the Enneagram of personality? You know, what is it? How can it help someone better understand themselves?

Sure.

Okay, well, it kind of does it the same way in its own way. I like to say that the astrology is like a track coach. It’s all elbows and knees. It’s trying to get the 100 meter time down. And for the Enneagram, it’s kind of like the fan in the stands watching the whole race. So the Enneagram has a figure. It’s three geometric shapes that combine to create a figure.

that is called the Enneagram figure and it has nine points on it. It has three geometric shapes create nine points. And Enneagram is a term from Greek that means nine-sided figure. And you can put anything at the points, but in the Enneagram of personality, it ended up in the 60s that personalities are put at the points. And it turns out to be both like a psychological tool

like personality typing to help us to know our personality. But it actually goes a lot further that these are the nine personality types. And one of them is at our core. And when we understand which one it is, then it explains our core strategies in terms of our personality, also in terms of skills on the high side. But on the low side, it explains our core triggers and it explains our

the patterning of our personality. it’s like, how do you know me so well? That’s how well it explains the patterning. That the fact is, that from the nine types are numbered one through nine. They also have names. We don’t always agree on the names, but they’re numbered one through nine. And there’s no hierarchy. Eight isn’t better than four. They’re all the same. But when you understand your core trigger, then it just really, your core strategy, it really helps you to.

why you are, why you do what you do, and what’s the motivation behind your behavior in order to be able to let it go. That the reality of it is on spiritual growth is that the mere knowing of something is already in the solution.

Interesting. And is that all part of it’s all part of because you know, it’s all part of the astrology too. I mean, it’s all part of it. if you were to, I’ve always had something separate.

No, think it’s the same. I think it works the same way. And I think that I was going to say that it doesn’t work that way physically, but I think it’s, you know, like, I don’t know why acne came up, but I mean, if you’ve got acne, okay, well, it doesn’t cure the acne. But if you get behind that you eat the wrong foods because you are stressed out, you know, a teen, you’re stressed out, you feel very vulnerable, and then you get the acne that if you take it in a holistic way, which

I wasn’t planning to make this example, but it even works when you look at it in holistic way that I think it can happen. But it’s by knowing that I’m too loud or I’m not secure enough and that I push people away or that I’m too quiet and I don’t tell people how I feel, whatever it is that we all do, when you, know, not at 18 maybe, but you know, 25, 28, as soon as you hear,

You know, it’s like, OK, well, maybe 35. When you hear it, it’s like, OK, thank you. Yeah. yeah. And it starts, you it starts. You start releasing. It’s a process of releasing. You release the pain. You understand and you start releasing you and you start being more vulnerable about it and more willing to hear it and more willing to look at it and more willing to to change. And that that’s what does it.

Yeah. Yeah. And the four door you talk about the four doorways to the four door. So what is that?

The four doors.

Okay, so the four doorways of living, I like to say that at the end people say, well, this is great information, and now what do I do with it? So the four doorways are, the first doorway is to observe your own behavior, that you need to watch your own thinking and behavior, you need to watch your reactions to other people’s thinking and behavior, you need to watch your reactions to situations, you need to watch your reactions.

to other people’s reactions to situations. You need to get out of the movie of your life into the audience to create an objectivity about who you are and what you’re doing and how you’re going about it and what you’re feeling in the moment. And then you have to let go and release what doesn’t serve you. Letting go involves being aware of a feeling, letting it come up, staying with it and letting it run its course without wanting to make it different or do anything about it.

It means simply to let the feeling be there and to focus on letting out the energy behind it when letting go, ignore all thoughts. And this is something I just read from David Hawkins, who has a book called Letting Go. That’s wonderful. The third doorway is to love yourself. And the fourth doorway is to live in the moment. If you live in the moment, you love yourself. How do I love myself? By letting go and releasing what doesn’t serve you.

Now I like to say if you’re eating ice cream, Scott, and ice cream is serving you, then that’s okay. Keep eating the ice cream. But if that ice cream isn’t really serving you, it’s time to let it go. And anything else that are behaviors, that are opinions, that are attitudes.

Well, it’s really deep. But the thing is, it goes as deep as you like it because you control how much intuition, how open you are, and then by changing how open you are, changes the amount of intuition that comes through. My approach, I like to call science and intuition. That the science helps to…

of the modalities helps to explain and give the roadmap. And then the intuition takes over. And then I start getting messages from other people. I feel they come from other people, not from, you know, it’s more from the other people. And when they block it, then I don’t feel it so much. And my skill is to be open. It’s not so much that it’s a skill, that the skill is to be open and then I can kind of hear things. So the process is that we’re really…

taking a deep dive into the Alice in Wonderland of your life in order to not for judgment, it’s from higher self to higher self, from essence to essence, to look at personality because that’s where the problems are, but not in a confront of a judgmental wrong. And most people are very, very relieved at the end. They’re laughing after there’s some crying moments and some real, oh, darns.

There’s lightness and laughter at the end. And I had one lady a week ago who was full of questions. And I said, at the end, you’re going to have no questions. And it was really a beautiful moment when I said for the 10th or 15th time, do you have any questions? And she said, no.

You know, the emptiness there for the moment.

Yeah, you know, I’d like to maybe just chat with you philosophically for a moment and I just love to get your sense on this. world right now really feels especially chaotic. And from your perspective, think it’s really going on beneath the surface of all of this.

Well, I just had this conversation with my sister. think that changes needed to be made. Well, I think there’s many levels, but if you’re talking the political and the governmental and all of that kind of chaos and the economics and all of this, changes need to be made. think everybody, I think that’s one thing, not that I’ve done a poll, but I think everybody will agree that

almost everybody will agree that changes need to be made. So changes are being made. And I think that is it how everybody wants it? Well, of course it isn’t because that’s not the way it works. so I think that…

I really work at not getting afraid because I just don’t want to be that attached, that I just don’t really care. I was in Thailand when North Korea was going on and I really felt strongly that if they’re going to blow up the planet, I don’t really care, let them blow up the planet, but I’m not going to lose peace over it.

with you. I remember there was a medium that I had seen many years ago. And she talked about something like that, you know, about the world blowing up and she’s well, what’s the worst thing that it’s gonna happen? The tunnel is a little crowded. We’re all gonna get there. So, you know, don’t sit there and worry about this stuff. Because it doesn’t serve you, you know, talk about what serves you, it doesn’t serve you. It’s not good.

You know, and that’s why I turn off the news. I don’t want to focus on those sorts of things, you know, whether it’s, and it doesn’t even have to be about politics, just the news is just negative. It’s, you know, all kinds of terrible stuff.

But I think the other side of it is that we are coming into a higher age. And while I have a particular philosophy around something that are called the Yugas and that we’re in a higher age, that we’re actually already in the higher age, but we’re not very far into it. So it doesn’t seem like it yet, but we’ve actually in the higher age. How do we know that? Well, the internet, mean, we’re talking, we’re 3000 miles away and here we are talking like you’re next door, maybe even better than next door.

you know, the universal healthcare, the internet, space travel, body mind, the way the yoga has exploded in the last 50 years, Feng Shui, Tai Chi, sound healing, which is kind of seems to be really kind of big sound healing. Sound healing is not, I like to say good vibrations, exaltations, that’s a new age. That is not…

We call it Kali Yuga. That’s the densest age. That is not Kali Yuga. This is Drapara Yuga. It’s a higher age. And I like to say that we were given that it’s a 2000 year cycle, that it started at 125 years ago. So 125 out of 2000 years based on a ratio of nine months, it’s only two weeks. We don’t even know we’re pregnant yet. You get how I did that?

That’s the chaos is the old life dying and the new life coming on. so, and so that’s, I mean, I see that explosion. I talk about that. I was talking with a friend of mine in India last winter, and he told me that his son, who’s a famous teacher over there, he had 87 people for the month long, and they were from 43 countries.

Well, and I’ve been saying for a while, I think people are waking up, you know, they’re figuring it out. Even those of us, and I can, I’m speaking for myself now that have woke, you know, I woke up a while ago. I feel like I can feel the energy. just had this conversation yesterday. I feel the energy is shifting. I can feel it with me. Something’s happening again. I can feel it. You know, it’s a different kind of thing. I, you know, I recognize it where I didn’t exactly recognize.

Yes.

And I think that’s why these times, if we go to the political and the chaos and we don’t know what’s going to happen, that’s why it’s so powerful is because when the drug trips are not so easy. I hear the stories of the throwing up from the ayahuasca, it’s not necessarily an easy trip.

That’s what we’re in right now. That’s the point we’re in. And I just see it as a natural part of the cycle. I don’t see it as particularly, you could say maybe some of it is dark and evil. And that’s just part of us, because that’s in us, that dark and evil.

Well, it’s part of it. And you know, can’t see the light without the dark sometimes, you know.

That’s right. This is part of what we need is a winter summer, too much rain, too much heat. It’s the natural extremes that teach us to live in the center.

I love that. I’m glad we’re having that conversation because I really feel like this will help people maybe who are really having a hard time right now. Like they can’t get out of their own way. They can’t get it out. Understand that it’s part of a cycle. It’s part of what, just part of it. But things are changing. So don’t hang on to what’s negative. Just look forward and keep going. What is the wheel of totality? How does it?

reveal, you know, what we’re not seeing about ourselves.

So the wheel of totality is something I like to say that was given to me by spirit. And in astrology, we mostly, when you have a reading, you’re mostly 95, 98 % talking about planets, about the planets and houses that have planets in them. But…

For most of us, particularly if you don’t include, I mean, for everybody, there are houses that don’t have anything. But if you get rid of asteroids and you don’t put in some of the esoteric stuff and you get down to real planets, and even if you drop the outer planets, then you might have a chart where, for averages, you have planets in five or six houses and you have five or six or seven empty.

And so these empty ones also contain awareness on a spiritual level, on a galactic level. They are just as important and have as much awareness as anything else. But the reality of it is that the nature of the personality is that where you have planets, that’s where you’re living out of. That’s the focus of this life. That’s the areas you work in.

But the Wheel of Totality talks about the empty houses, that each house has an awareness. And it talks about the, it’s not on an astrological level of the mundane level of let’s say 10th house’s career or seventh house’s relationship. It’s a very deeper teaching that I like to say is way before astrology. It’s like what astrology came from. the houses are.

for the 10th house, it’s love. It’s career is how you’re seen, on the wheel of totality, the 10th house is love. And the teaching is that if you have a planet there, then love, which is not conditional love, which is when we have expectations about what you’re gonna do and not do, and I’m gonna love you. Love becomes an attitude that doesn’t actually need an object, that you just wake up loving.

And it isn’t about a specific thing or a specific event. It’s just the energy that flows through you. But if you don’t have a planet there, then that love is hard to achieve. for the wheel, I say we don’t really start working on these empty houses until the late 40s and 50s. And why is that? Because the 20s and 30s are mostly building up ego and identity. And we don’t really want to work on our deficiencies. It’s not only until the 40s that you really are willing to work on the deficiencies.

generally most of us. And so that’s when we start working on it. Seventh house is relationship in a typical astrology chart for the wheel of totality. It’s seeing through conditioning. People that have a planet in the seventh house can see through conditioning. And so they don’t have conditioning as a challenge in them as to what they do. People that don’t have a planet there find difficulties when conditioning.

And when they come to me, really have to distinguish between their own noise and the noise. You can’t heal conditioning stories because you don’t have the problem. The problem you have is that you’re buying into somebody else’s story.

So each one has a story like that. And I didn’t wanna, unless you wanna go through each one, I know we’re kind of getting to the end, but that’s the way that it works. And it’s a very deep teaching. I end up, we end up looking, giving you one based on geometry, not the subject, but the geometry of your particular chart. If you have like a three in a row or four in a row or five in a row, we try to get one in the middle. It’s the most efficient.

for you and everybody has a slightly different shape that kind of connotates a different kind of a solution and we give one to work on and that one can really help to alleviate all of them for you when it’s a stepping stone because they’re the way that they’re actually connected in your chart that they when you when you highlight an area of your chart for example if you you know what can you say if you get

If you win an award and then you get super confident and then customers come, whether they know or not, more customers come, or then your paper gets accepted, or whatever it is when the things lead to other things. And so we can pinpoint the one that would be the most efficient in order to pull all the strings so that they’ll all pop.

Fantastic. I want to ask you this one question because when, when I had your list of things that I could ask you, this is the one people always ask me. And I’m now going to have to say, need to call Indra because I can’t answer it. What do you believe is the secret of life?

Do you know that I talk about, I do that one? Or did I tell you that already? Huh? That’s why you asked me. The secret. So I like to tell, there’s a little joke story that God asked Mrs. God, where should I put the secret of life? As Mrs. God says, put it in their heart and never find it there.

So the secret of life is to open your heart, is to love and to be openhearted and to be approachable and to be vulnerable and to be willing to breathe deep. Beautiful, Scott, to breathe deep and to accept, be in total acceptance. Acceptance of what you can accept and accept what you can’t accept. Accept that you can’t accept it.
